Open Evening in Kildare

The No Name Club will be holding an open evening in Kildare Town on Thursday, April 28th to showcase what the town’s new youth club will have to offer the community’s teenagers.

The event is taking place in Aras Bhride at 6pm and the club’s newly established adult committee will be there to meet and greet teenagers and their parents and explain to them about how the club will work.

Speaking ahead of the event, Anthony McCormack, No Name Club Development Manager says: “Kildare Town No Name Club is now up and running, with a vibrant adult committee in place. At the open day we are inviting young people to turn up with application forms to join a club that will provide them with great opportunities to enjoy life and get together. The open evening is also an opportunity for parents of teenagers to come along and find out more information about the No Name Club.”

The club will support teenagers aged 15+ and they will run it for themselves, with the support of the adult committee. The teenage members, who will be known as hosts and hostesses, will be supported in running the fun events and activities they decide upon for themselves and their peers. They will also have an opportunity to work within the community and through their involvement with the national organisation, they will develop their leadership and confidence skills.

Mr McCormack says the community of Kildare Town has shown a great response to the opportunity to establish a No Name Club. He says: “Both adults and teenagers in Kildare Town have been very enthusiastic about establishing a club since we went into the community to inform people of how the No Name Club operates. We’re delighted to have progressed to the stage where we’re at, and the open evening will give us a great opportunity to meet with young people and their parents.”

The No Name Club has been established since 1978 and has clubs in Newbridge and Kilcullen. The No Name Club highlights to teenagers the fun and enjoyment they can have without the need for alcohol or other drugs. The adult volunteers play crucial roles in supporting the club and the young people and allowing it to be run in a safe and supervised manner. Training in child protection and on how the No Name Club operates is provided by the organisation.
