Founded: 1978

A brief history of our club:  Kilkenny No Name club was founded in 1978 by three local men, Eamonn Doyle (The Garda), Father Tom Murphy (The Priest) and Eddie Keher (The Hurler).  These three men decided that starting up a local club for the young people of their community to provide an alternative to the pub culture would be a great idea, but little did they know how much of a great idea it would turn out to be!

Due to their individual popularity in Kilkenny starting the club was an immediate success and it has gone from strength to strength ever since.  The club currently runs a range of activities with and for its members.

In club activities included team-building exercises and self-development exercises.  When we meet in The Drum we also have a pool table, the Wii and several computers with Internet access for the group to keep occupied every evening.  We also travel to all national events where possible.

Kilkenny No Name Club has its recruitment every year in September and we recruit from incoming Transition Year students.  We are always flooded with applications receiving approximately 200 to 300 every year, but can only accept approximately member 50 under our own club guidelines so we go through a careful selection process and select equal proportions of members from all the city schools.

We are very proud of our local club history in Kilkenny and it is something that has been passed through a couple of generations at this stage, with original hosts and hostesses now sending their kids to the club. It is great to see that the interest has not just survived, but grown since the club’s inception in 1978 and we look forward to many more years of success in the local and national No Name Club community.
