After a series of meeting in January 2011 an adult committee was formed to look into the possibility of opening a No Name Club in Dundalk.
Following a couple of months of open days, school canvassing, fundraising, and looking for a suitable venue, on April 1, 2011, we were proud to open our doors to our teenage members for the first time.
The club has gone from strength to strength and has grown to become one of the biggest in the north east, with a host and hostess membership of around 35.
The ranges of activities we provide includes:
- Chill and chat nights
- Discos
- Themed nights
- Movie nights (sometimes with pizza!)
- Games nights
- Table quizzes
- BBQ nights
- Participation in No Name Club national events
In our first 12 months since opening we have also organised other events, including a camping trip, masquerade ball, Hallowe’en and Christmas parties, and a mock wedding.
Our host and hostess members are encouraged to help organize these events, which gives them the chance to experience things like decision-making, planning, leadership skills and teamwork. It also allows them to develop skills in areas such as confidence, self esteem, communication and problem-solving.
Our hosts and hostesses have been very successful in the national competitions winning prizes in the following competitions
- Competed in the RSA public speaking competition in December, where one of the team won the individual public speaking prize
- Have a host in the finals of the National Youth Awards 2012
- Team competing in the group dance in the finals of the Supertalent competition 2012
- Won the karaoke competition at the North East Regional Finals 2012
Dundalk has a long association with the No Name Club, having had a thriving club throughout the ’80s and a successful finalist the very first Host and Hostess of the National youtH Awards, staged in 1984.
